Carson Elementary School Library Policies
The Carson Library will be promoting the very best of children’s literature with activities designed to help students enjoy the library even more.
I will be doing my very best to keep (or get) your child(ren) “hooked on reading” by recommending specific reading materials to each individual. Depending on your child’s grade, they will be able to check out anywhere from one to four books at a time. Even students who cannot read can greatly benefit from choosing books on their own and being read to.
All classes will have a dedicated day of the week to exchange library materials. Please help your child remember his/her library day to ensure that they can check out books. The library is also open from 8:45 - 9:00 am and 3:45 - 4:00 pm.
Library “Fine Print” (check-out policy):
By asking students to return their books on time and in good condition, we are teaching them to be responsible library patrons and continue on their path to lifelong learning. The DPS district policy requires students who lose or damage school materials to pay for them. Students with lost or damaged library books will not be allowed to check out additional books until payment is made (payment can be monetary or direct replacement). If a student has a lost or overdue library book, the librarian will send a notice. If a parent is unable to make immediate payment, please contact the teacher librarian, Mrs. Cushing, to make arrangements.
Please (no matter what grade your child is in) remind your child(ren) to turn in their books in a timely fashion - it does not need to be their library day to return. Also, please talk with your child about a safe place to put their books so they do not lose them, and so that they are not damaged (bookshelves, backpacks, and dressers are great places).
